The Coalition of Carers holds 4 meetings a year throughout Scotland. Meetings are open to all members with each carer organisation invited to attend with one staff member and two carers.
The next meeting of the Coalition of Carers in Scotland will be on Wednesday the 25th August at the Thistle Hotel, Cambridge Street, Glasgow, G2 3HN
Since the general election in May 2010 there have been many changes to the political landscape. We have a new Coalition Government, there has been a tough budget and further talk of difficult economic times and spending cuts to come. Many of our members have expressed concerns about how this will effect carers.
Jo Swinson MP will be attending to explain how the new Coalition Government is operating and to talk about these issues. Barry Robinson from the Department for Work and Pensions will talk about changes to the benefits system and Annie-Gunner Logan from Community Care Providers Scotland, will be providing a perspective on how these developments will effect voluntary sector organisations and the people they support.
In the afternoon we will be bringing you details of the newly launched Carers Strategy for Scotland, Caring Together and discussing how the Coalition and its members can support its local implementation. We will also be seeking your views on the Carers Manifesto Campaign, which is currently being developed by the National Carer Organisations in advance of next years elections.
