Who will be eligible for the Spring Covid Booster?

COVID-19 can be more serious in older adults and in people with certain health conditions. For these reasons, the Scottish Government is offering a spring booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to:

• residents in care homes for older adults

• adults aged 75 years and over (or who will turn 75 by 30 June 2023)

• people aged 5 years and over with a weakened immune system (must have

turned 5 by 1 April 2023).

This follows the clinical recommendations of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

Carers and household contacts of those with a weakened immune system will not be eligible this spring, but as per the JCVI statement of 25 January outlining interim plans for 2023, it may be that they are offered a booster in winter, subject to further JCVI advice.

How will those eligible for the spring booster be invited forward?

• Residents in homes for older adults will receive their vaccine through their care

home from 27 March 2023.

• All those aged 75 years and over will be sent a date, time and location of their appointment via letter, text or email, depending on their contact preference.

• Children aged 5 to 11 years with a weakened immune system will be contacted with a scheduled appointment date and time. Please note your child must have turned five by 1 April 2023 to be eligible for a spring booster.
